Gift Ideas for
Watercolour Painting
This week Jackie Garner’s blog is devoted to a 5 day Christmas gift guide for artists. The first two days are art material suggestions.
If you are thinking of making your own Christmas cards we have a good selection of tools and materials here at Jackson’s that you might find useful. We have blank watercolour greetings cards at a good price and some great printmaking supplies to help you get creative.
Receiving a handmade card makes Christmas even more special. Making cards to send is rewarding and gets you into the Christmas spirit. It is a fun activity for the holidays and creating something especially for family and friends makes it that much more meaningful. If you’d like to use printmaking to make a series of cards we have tools and materials for making lino cut prints and silkscreen prints. Or you can of course draw or paint your cards as individual works of art or scan one of your paintings and use our quality inkjet papers to make digital cards using your own artwork.
Lino-cut is a simple, inexpensive and fun way of making your own cards that can also double up as beautiful limited edition artworks! Lino-printing is a wonderfully effective and easy way to try printmaking in your home or studio. If you haven’t tried it before you might be surprised at the quality of the outcome. We have a number of printmaking books that will help you get started and we have a growing Printmaking Department with a variety of tools and inks to choose from.
Printmaking options for cards:
Lino-Print: We carry a selection of Lino tools and inks for relief printing which works great for printing your own greetings cards.
-We have screen printing sets for making cards, t-shirts or you can give the set as a gift itself.
-Inkjet papers for printing reproductions of your artwork as cards or reproduction prints.
Blank watercolour paper greetings cards:
-We carry blank watercolour greetings cards with envelopes in packs of 10 or 100. They have deckle edges and open in either a landscape format or a portrait format. They are a good price, as well. The paper is a NOT surface Fabriano watercolour paper but it works well for lino printing and it is convenient to have the paper already made into cards.
Paper Department:
If you prefer smooth paper for printing on we have a number of possibilities. The Fabriano Accademia or Stonehenge multi media papers work well and Gareth (one of our resident printmakers) uses the Winsor & Newton Cartridge Paper in smooth.

Postage on orders shipped standard to mainland UK addresses is free for orders of £39.
