Mixed Media Mosaics by Laurie Mike

This is a very popular book for polymer clay artists with easy-to-follow instructions, lots of step-by-step photos and creative ideas. It is amazing what you can do with Fimo!

This book uses polymer clay, mosaic-tile work as a new and exciting platform for mixed-media/collage artists. Readers will learn to craft highly textural and vividly colored icons, boxes, tables, items of personal adornment and more, using a combination of manufactured tiles and handmade tiles. Techniques for creating the tiles include painting and glazing, stamping, embedding items like beads and buttons, mixing pigments and mica powders with clay, adding metallic leaf, creating moulds, combining the handcrafted tiles with traditional mosaic tile, grout alternatives and more. In addition to learning techniques for making their own tiles, readers will discover helpful processes for working inspiration (such as an homage to a loved one or a memorable getaway) into their tile-work, using personalization techniques such as stamping words or adding personal ephemera and found objects.

Paint with the Impressionists book

Paint with the Impressionists:
A step-by-step guide to their methods and materials for today’s artists

by Jonathan Stephenson

Paint with the Impressionists

Paint with the Impressionists

In this approach to Impressionism and its methods, the author’s instruction sets out to enable amateur artists to paint like the Impressionists. Illustrated throughout with well-known works of art and step-by-step examples, the book shows how the masters achieved their diverse effects and how their ideas and styles can be adapted to today s tastes. Sections on the artists provide insight into individual technique: learn how Monet produced his oil colour sketches, or how Sisley created his landscapes.

Using examples of landscapes, portraits, still-life paintings and figures, the book gives a series of demonstrations, showing how to achieve the desired effects in stages, from the initial sketch to the finished painting. An introduction provides historical background to Impressionism, and a section is included on artist s materials. This book should appeal both to beginners and to more experienced artists, as well as those inspired by Impressionist painting.

Creative Paint Workshop for Mixed-Media Artists: Experimental Techniques for Composition, Layering, Texture, Imagery, and Encaustic
By Ann Baldwin

Creative Paint Workshop for Mixed-Media Artists

Creative Paint Workshop for Mixed-Media Artists

This is a workshop-style book, oriented to the wide community of crafters and artists including those interested in paint, surface design, mixed media, and collage. The book explores a wide variety of innovative and experimental paint techniques. Chapters cover composition, abstraction, texture, layering, using found objects, encaustic, integrating text, and adding digital imagery.

Ann Baldwin was born in London, England, and lived there until 1990 when she came to live in the San Francisco Bay area with her husband. She began painting in 1991, after being a teacher of literature all of her working life. Within 18 months she was exhibiting landscapes in local juried shows. Initially self-taught, she began studying art history, painting, colour theory, drawing and design, and became known as an abstractionist, and later developed her text-and-image collages. As a full-time artist, she continues to break rules and experiment, currently with encaustic.
