New Books at Jackson's

We have three new books at Jackson’s.
-The Aviation Art of Frank Wootton in Art History and Theory Books.
This collection encompasses the full range of Wootton’s art, from his intense early years as official artist to the RAF during WWII, to the very recent past, including his impressions of Concorde and modern high-tech fighter planes. The book begins with commentary from Wootton on his experiences, illustrated by his line drawings and sketches of the people, vehicles and aircraft that surrounded him. It then goes on to present over 70 exquisite plates splendidly reproduced in full colour. With interesting descriptions of the context of each painting it would also be of interest to military history enthusiasts.

-The Fantasy Illustrators Technique Book: From Creating Characters to Selling Your Work, Learn the Skills of the Professional Fantasy Artist in the General Painting department.
This book has received great reviews and is technique focussed which many people appreciate. Mostly works on paper, there is a small digital section.

-The Paintings of John Yardley by Ron Ranson in the Watercolour Books section.
Ron Ranson presents some of the finest examples of contemporary impressionist painting in this selection of John Yardley’s memorable watercolours. It includes a wide variety of subject matter, from sunlit gardens and Italian piazzas to cool understated interiors, still lifes and flower paintings. Commentary examines the artist’s motivation for painting and his simple yet effective techniques. It showcases 100 plates, splendidly reproduced in full colour, for the enjoyment of art lovers and artists alike.
What I find interesting is that it is not presented as art history. Since a painter has made this book he talks about technique and looks at the works from a maker’s point of view. In the caption for each work he points out different methods of painting or compares compositions.
