Demonstrations and Workshops with the New Derwent Pastel Pencils at The Cumberland Pencil Museum, Keswick.

Professional pencil artist, Jenny Hill, has created a Derwent workshop using the new Derwent Pastel Pencils. Nothing beats the colourful brilliance of pastels but they’re not the easiest medium to use. However you can now enjoy all the beauty of pastel in a convenient, non-messy form. Derwent woodcased pastel pencils have a soft, powdery texture which produces a velvety smooth finish, ideal for mixing and blending. And because they’re pencils, they’re clean and easy to control – although you may not be able to resist the occasional smudge with your finger!

Derwent was delighted to announce the re-launch of its pastel pencil range in January 2010, combining a contemporary new look and softer texture with a rejuvenated range of colours.
The new softer texture means improved performance. The pencil glides across the surface of the paper, transferring the colour with a velvety touch that produces a smooth and full bodied powdery finish. It is now easy to move colour around your drawing, especially with the help of a paper stump if you want to keep your fingers clean! The vibrant and intense colours blend easily to create an infinite number of hues and tints.

May 20th 2010 – Tuition Workshop – Creative Textures in Pastel with Jenny Hill
This workshop is suitable for beginners and intermediate levels, who wish to learn the basics in pastel pencils. Jenny will spend the whole day guiding you through pastel papers, coloured backgrounds, pencil block work, and gradually adding in quick techniques to create a picture.

Jenny’s favourite subjects are flowers, animals and British birds and she will explain layering, blending, and many other pastel techniques, helping you to produce your own couple of pieces of work throughout the day.

Workshops run between 10.30am – 4.30pm. £40 per person per workshop. A 10% discount is offered for any two or more workshops booked at any one time.

All materials for the day’s tuition are included in the cost of the workshop. Paper, pencils, fixing spray, brushes etc.., will all be provided per person. You will be working from a tin of 24 pencils, which will give you the opportunity to experiment with light, tone, and texture of the pencils.

As an 84 year old pastel pencil artist i would love to come to one of your pastel pencil demonstrations but age, not driving and the distant involved makes it impossible. I live in North Wales. I was wondering however if it would be possible to make a DVD of the demo. I would be first to buy it. Thank You. David Davies.
